Last night, The Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk hosted “Navigating Greatness – Celebrating Women in Maritime” at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, featuring an inspiring keynote from Rear Admiral Ann C. Phillips, USN (Ret.).

We enjoyed an evening of networking and conversation, connecting with colleagues and peers across the maritime community.

Congratulations to the Women’s Wavemaker Award recipients: Dr. Elspeth McMahon (Old Dominion University) and Amanda Ahlemeyer Robinson (McAllister Towing). Their leadership, innovation, and enduring impact exemplify the incredible contributions of women in maritime.

The CROFTON team recently executed the assembly, lift, and transport of a Manitowoc MLC300 crane that weighed 110-tons from our Harper Avenue yard in Portsmouth, VA.

This work is part of ongoing pier modifications to help our client increase their capacity. For this phase, which prepares for the erection of two tower cranes, we:

• Constructed the crane foundations and trestle
• Planned and coordinated the assembly, lift, transport, and placement of the MLC300
• Leveraged our industrial waterfront access and combined expertise in marine construction and crane rental & rigging

This carefully planned lift was executed using our crane, the “Samson,” with precision and teamwork every step of the way. A huge thank you to our team members for their skill and collaboration that made this complex project possible!

CROFTON was proud to be part of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) event in downtown Norfolk, where students got a first-hand look at marine careers and equipment in action.

Our tugboat, Huntsman, and floating crane derrick, Scott’s Creek, were docked at Nauticus for the day, giving tours and answering questions about the work we do on the water.

Huge thanks to Captain Mike Mahlmann, Wes Wetherbee, and intern Ja’Lil Tai Gordan aboard Huntsman, and Ricky Pond, operator of Scott’s Creek, for spending the day sharing their experience and expertise with the next generation of marine professionals.

 

 

We are proud to share that Camille Crofton Cherry, CROFTON’s Business Development Director, has been named to Inside Business’ 2025 Top 40 Under 40 list.

This annual recognition highlights young professionals who not only excel in their careers, but who also give their time and talents to strengthen our Hampton Roads community. Camille embodies that commitment wholeheartedly.

At CROFTON, Camille provides connectivity across business divisions so that we are seizing opportunities for operational excellence and growth. She works on marketing, communications, organizational and business development, and our strategic plan.

Beyond her work at CROFTON, Camille is currently serving with the Virginia Maritime Association as Vice President, The Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk as Immediate Past President, Portsmouth Economic Development Authority as a Commissioner, The Mariners’ Museum and Park as a Member of the Board of Trustees, The Portsmouth Partnership as a Board Member, and the ODU School of Supply Chain, Logistics, & Maritime Operations as an Advisory Council Member.
