CROFTON Supports the “Weld It, Build It, Sail It” Maritime Careers Festival at Nauticus

May 20, 2026

This weekend, CROFTON was proud to support the “Weld It, Build It, Sail It” Maritime Careers Festival at Nauticus in Norfolk. We were honored to have our crane front and center flying the American flag as families, students, and job seekers explored the many opportunities within Hampton Roads’ maritime industry.

The event showcased just how many rewarding maritime career paths exist right here in our region, sparking interest in the next generation while connecting today’s workforce with job opportunities. Shout out to Nauticus for making the festival such a success!

CROFTON Helps Repurpose Bridge Materials to Make Artificial Reefs in the Chesapeake Bay

May 12, 2026

We’re proud to support work that goes beyond infrastructure and helps strengthen the environment for future generations.

As part of the Virginia Department of Transportation HRBT Expansion project, demolished bridge sections are being repurposed to enhance existing artificial reefs in the Chesapeake Bay, creating new habitat for marine life and supporting a healthier underwater ecosystem.

CROFTON was honored to play a role in placing these structures offshore, helping give new purpose to materials from the project while supporting long-term environmental stewardship.

CROFTON Completes Successful Relocation of Historic Portsmouth Monument

May 11, 2026

Last week, CROFTON relocated this 8-foot-tall bronze statue from Willett Hall to its new home at Crawford Circle across from the Portsmouth Pavilion.

The project involved carefully excavating and removing three bronze statue figures originally embedded in approximately two feet of concrete, disassembling components as needed for transport, and reinstalling the artwork onto a newly constructed concrete footing at the new location.

Because of the statue’s age, significance, and craftsmanship, the relocation required extensive planning and coordination across multiple CROFTON teams. Specialized welders, riggers, crane operators, concrete crews, and support personnel worked together to ensure the artwork was safely removed, transported, and reinstalled without modification or damage to the original structure.

Through careful execution and strong communication between field crews and management, the entire relocation was completed in just four days, with no damage to any statue components.

Shout out to all the team members on this project! We appreciate the pride they took in preserving and protecting pieces of Portsmouth’s history.

Portsmouth State of the City 2026

May 8, 2026

We enjoyed today’s Portsmouth State of the City, hosted by the Hampton Roads Chamber, and appreciated hearing from Mayor Shannon Glover about the continued growth and momentum across the city. We were also honored to see CROFTON recognized in the program’s “Major Investments: Powering the New Blue Economy” section for our London Boulevard expansion and continued service to the industrial waterfront.

We also had the opportunity to reconnect with Leroy Bennett of Suffolk City Council. Leroy worked alongside Juan Crofton and Kenny Crofton during his years at Newport News Shipbuilding before retiring 26 years ago. While the event highlighted projects and progress, we remember that today’s success is also built on decades of relationships.

We’re proud to continue investing in Portsmouth, supporting the future of the New Blue Maritime Economy, and building relationships that keep our community strong.

Virginia Port Authority’s 7th Annual SWaM Networking and Information Event

May 1, 2026

CROFTON team members were proud to attend the Virginia Port Authority’s 7th Annual SWaM Networking and Information Event yesterday, hosted by The Port of Virginia.

This year’s theme was “Supply Chain Diversification: Navigating the Cost of Global Trade.” The event brought together businesses from across the region to connect, share resources, and strengthen partnerships with SWaM-certified companies.

Thank you to the Port of Virginia for hosting a great event! We’re always grateful for the chance to engage with partners who are helping move our industry forward.
