April 10, 2024

The Cypress Creek Bridge in Smithfield, VA was scheduled to be closed April 8th-12th as we removed the existing concrete girders on three spans of the circa-1975 bridge.

Commuters rejoiced when we finished 3.5 days early and the bridge reopened to westbound daytime traffic on Tuesday, April 9th!

WINDSdays: “At Portsmouth’s Crofton, Diving into Danger is What They Do”

April 10, 2024

CROFTON Operations Manager Roger Belch spoke to WINDSdays about the critical work we undertake when disaster strikes. In a recent article, Belch sheds light on the challenging and often dangerous tasks CROFTON’s team faces, such as the current situation involving the cargo ship wedged under the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Although CROFTON doesn’t have divers at the scene, Belch draws from our experience in similar emergencies, recounting a harrowing operation to recover a vehicle and victim from the surf zone in Virginia Beach earlier this year.

The article highlights the meticulous planning and expertise required in underwater recovery operations, especially when visibility is low and conditions are hazardous. Belch emphasizes that despite the perception of glamour, the job is fraught with risks, underscoring the need for skilled professionals equipped with the right tools. Read the article here.

April 5, 2024

As you might have guessed, CROFTON joined many others in Baltimore earlier this week with the Samson to assist with the recovery efforts of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Thank you to Deadrise Marine Photography for capturing the efforts of our crew, and all the crews who are working to clear the Baltimore channel.

CROFTON Completes Portsmouth Seawall Replacement Project

March 20, 2024

The City of Portsmouth deemed part of the Portsmouth seawall unsafe due to structural deficiencies over eight years ago.

CROFTON broke ground on “Area 6” of the replacement project in July 2022. Referred to as the promenade, it includes more than 600 linear feet of seawall. We’re happy to say it reopened to the public in February 2024.

Visitors will notice a new bulkhead wall, a new concrete boardwalk and handrails that match the previously completed sections.

The City of Portsmouth has been our home since 1986. It has been our honor to support the revitalization of this community landmark and we are so happy to see it open again for all citizens to enjoy our beautiful working waterfront!

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for CROFTON Expansion

March 8, 2024

Last week marked a significant milestone for CROFTON as we celebrated the completion of the refurbishment of a critical section of our waterfront facility. The ribbon cutting ceremony was graced by the presence of Mayor Shannon Glover and other esteemed City of Portsmouth officials, making the event even more special.

The refurbishment project is a testament to our ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation. This refurbished section will enhance our operational efficiency, allowing us to better serve the needs of the maritime community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mayor Glover, Director of Economic Development Brian Donahue, the City of Portsmouth officials, and everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. Your encouragement and partnership are invaluable, and we are honored to serve this incredible community.
