Last week, CROFTON relocated this 8-foot-tall bronze statue from Willett Hall to its new home at Crawford Circle across from the Portsmouth Pavilion.
The project involved carefully excavating and removing three bronze statue figures originally embedded in approximately two feet of concrete, disassembling components as needed for transport, and reinstalling the artwork onto a newly constructed concrete footing at the new location.
Because of the statue’s age, significance, and craftsmanship, the relocation required extensive planning and coordination across multiple CROFTON teams. Specialized welders, riggers, crane operators, concrete crews, and support personnel worked together to ensure the artwork was safely removed, transported, and reinstalled without modification or damage to the original structure.
Through careful execution and strong communication between field crews and management, the entire relocation was completed in just four days, with no damage to any statue components.
Shout out to all the team members on this project! We appreciate the pride they took in preserving and protecting pieces of Portsmouth’s history.
