CROFTON was glad to be back at this year’s State of the Port, hosted by the Hampton Roads Global Commerce Council. It’s always a great event, and we enjoyed catching up with industry friends and feeling the excitement around all that’s happening in the maritime and logistics world here in Hampton Roads.
Looking forward to another strong year ahead!

Kevin Crofton and Olga Mileyko Graduate Virginia Maritime Association MLCP
Congratulations to CROFTON team members, Kevin Crofton and Olga Mileyko, PMP, for graduating from the 2026 class of the Virginia Maritime Association’s Maritime Leaders Certificate Program (MLCP). This year-long program provides an in-depth look at the maritime and logistics industry while developing the leadership skills that drive our teams and projects forward.
Programs like MLCP help build knowledge and connections across the maritime community. We’re thrilled to see Kevin and Olga continue to grow as leaders and bring that expertise back to our projects at CROFTON.
Congratulations again to our graduates and to the entire MLCP Class of 2026!
CROFTON Tower Crane Assembly at General Dynamics
Some projects take a little extra problem solving. This one took a lot.
At General Dynamics, CROFTON assembled Tower Cranes 7 and 8 as part of a Design-Build project aimed at increasing the shipyard’s capacity to service naval vessels.
Originally, the crane assembly was expected to take place from a floating crane alongside the pier. But fluctuating tides, weather conditions, and harbor traffic made that approach less than ideal.
So the CROFTON team got creative.
Two temporary platforms were constructed adjacent to the tower crane foundations. Much of the Manitowoc MLC300 was assembled at the CROFTON yard, then lifted, transported, and placed onto the platform using the Samson. From there, the assembly was completed on the platform before moving forward with the tower crane installations on the pier.
This project is a great example of what can happen when the right team tackles a complex challenge.
Huge shoutout to the CROFTON crew who made it happen, and thank you to General Dynamics and the rest of our project stakeholders for trusting us with such a critical job.
