For the first time since 2000, Battleship Wisconsin moved, and CROFTON was there to help make it happen.
Yesterday, our team deployed the Huntsman tug and a crane-mounted barge to assist in moving the 45,000-ton, 887-foot Battleship Wisconsin approximately five feet away from the downtown Norfolk pier where she has been docked for more than 25 years.
Five feet may not sound like much, but moving a ship of this size takes serious precision.
The move is part of maintenance work taking place this week to replace the ship’s marine fender and help ensure the Wisconsin can continue to welcome visitors and be preserved for generations to come.
Special thanks to Nauticus for the work they do to preserve and share this incredible piece of maritime history with our community.
