Crofton is seeking a Welder to join our team.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Performs various welding processes to repair, modify and install various pipes, structures, foundations and fittings associated with shipboard hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems
- Selects proper materials and requirements to perform welding functions. Fabricates and installs fixtures and jigs required for welding process alignments
- Responsible for welding of steel, aluminum and stainless-steel materials using the SMAW, GTAW and/or GMAW processes in all positions on steel boats, aluminum boats, barges and shop fabrication assignments.
- The individual must also be able to read, interpret, and follow blueprints or technical drawings and understand associated welding symbols.
- The individual plans for the setting up and operation of the machine shop equipment prior to commencing the operation They follow detailed repair procedures and instructions (e.g., SOW, Specs, ASME or RCC M standards, etc.) required completing the production operations
- Lays out material prior to performing welding operations to prevent possible errors
- Cut, grind, file, deburr, smooth, and polish surfaces using hand, and power tools
- Produces quality welds, including pipes, in difficult or adverse conditions and is proficient in multiple welding procedures
- Maintains good housekeeping practices, turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, etc.
- Ensures that all Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) are worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded
- Returns tools/equipment to proper location and reports any lost, missing, stolen or damaged items to the Tool Room Attendant
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum of 2 years of FCAW weld experience
- Stick welding – 6010, 7018, and 7024
- Must demonstrate ability to carbon arc gouge and to use the oxy-fuel cutting process
- Satisfactorily pass vertical and overhead fillet welding as well as groove welding tests using manual and semi-automatic welding processes
- Must be able to pass an x-ray weld test.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand weld layout and processes.
Education and Experience:
- 5 years' experience as a welder
- Welding certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to perform welding work while wearing all required personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a filtering face piece and/or tight-fitting respirator
- May require working above ground (15 feet or more), comfortable with heights
- Must be able to climb ladders or stairs to reach objects
- May require working in narrow or confined workspaces for extended periods of time
- May require extensive kneeling, bending, walking and/or standing for long periods of time
- Able to comply with all applicable safety regulations, work under industrial repair conditions
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
